The wife of Barcelona star İlkay Gündoğan has today revealed that she finds herself increasingly missing life back in Manchester.
Midfielder Gündoğan, of course, left England and Manchester behind last summer.
After leading Pep Guardiola’s City to a historic treble as captain, the German international set his sights on a new challenge, in Spain.
Gündoğan’s start to life in La Liga has since been far from ideal, amid what is bordering on a crisis for Xavi and his Barcelona squad.
But the 33-year-old himself, to his credit, has been one of few leading lights in the Blaugrana’s squad, on his way to five goals and ten assists across the season to date.
And yet, whilst her husband excels on the pitch, Gündoğan’s wife is yet to fully adapt to life away from it.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail this week, Sara Gündoğan was drawn on leaving Manchester in the rear view, for her new life in sunny Catalunya.
This comes with the Italian model having caught the headlines on more than one occasion during her partner’s stint at Man City, for criticizing everything from the cuisine to the weather.
Sara has now somewhat changed her tune, though, having admitted that, owing largely to social factors, she is beginning to ‘miss Manchester a bit’:
“My friends were part of football, the people I knew through my husband, apart from that I had no one. I am a very social person, and it took me a while, but I made good friends”
“it is very difficult to live in England when you are alone at home and you don’t know anyone. But when that changes you enjoy it a lot. I started to enjoy everything and I miss Manchester a bit now.”
