Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, as of this week, is continuing to go against the wishes of the club’s medical staff regarding the treatment of his knee. This comes with the Dutchman absolutely reluctant to undergo surgery.
Midfielder De Jong was of course condemned to a fresh spell on the sidelines back in July. After returning to base in Catalunya’s capital following the World Cup, the former Ajax man was revealed to have suffered a significant knee injury.
Barcelona’s medical staff were quick to recommend surgical intervention, convinced that this would reduce De Jong’s absence as much as possible. The 29-year-old, however, opted against as much, instead making use of conservative treatment with a team of doctors and physios.
But unfortunately, this approach has since not produced even close to the desired results. In fact, De Jong remains unable to run on the grass without pain.
For this reason, the midfielder has again been urged to consider going under the knife.
As per a report from Blaugrana insider Javier Miguel of Diario AS, however:
‘The club insists that the only viable way to avoid repeating cases like those of Samuel Umtiti and Ansu Fati is surgery, but the Dutch player remains reluctant to accept the surgical solution, aware that he would miss practically three-quarters of the season.’
