Barcelona set sights on Mio Backhaus

The transfer team at La Liga giants Barcelona have turned their attentions towards Germany, amid their ongoing search for reinforcements with a view to next season.

That’s according to Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, who highlights Mio Backhaus as the player in the sights of the Blaugrana.

Backhaus, for his part, is a 20-year-old goalkeeper, who is currently on the books of Werder Bremen.

The youngster spent this past season out on loan in the Netherlands, with FC Volendam.

And, despite his side’s eventual relegation, Backhaus thoroughly impressed, on his way to being named Eredivisie goalkeeper of the season.

Such exploits have piqued the attentions of a whole host of clubs from across the continent, with the aforementioned Barcelona amongst the most interested.

The Blaugrana are understood to have sent scouts to watch the German starlet in action on a number of occasions over recent months.

Backhaus is currently in line to head back to parent club Werder in the summer, but could well be tempted by the prospect of a move to La Liga, in the case of Barca formalising their interest.
