The reason given to Xavi by Barcelona president Laporta for his sacking

An insight into the specifics of the explanation provided to Barcelona head coach Xavi for his sacking has this weekend been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and reveals that as much was communicated to the 44-year-old during a meeting on Friday.

Xavi’s dismissal from his berth on the touchline in Catalunya’s capital was of course made official yesterday afternoon.

This came with a view to Hansi Flick being installed in place of the Spaniard.

Xavi, for his part, was made aware of his impending exit during a sit-down with all of president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste, and sporting director Deco.

After overseeing the morning training session at The Ciutat Esportiva, the ex-midfielder was called into a private room by the Barcelona brass.

From here, a short and cordial exchange took place, during which it was explained to Xavi that recent comments laid out on his part during a press conference made clear the difference of opinion between the parties when it comes to their plans moving forward.

Laporta and co. deduced that the club’s manager does not trust the current squad of players at his disposal to compete for titles.

Xavi argued that this is in fact not the case, but the aforementioned MD conclude that:

‘The club considers that it is easier to change the coach than to get rid of several players given the way the club’s economy is and that is why the decision was made to dispense with him.’
