La Liga giants Barcelona have this week closed a deal for a fresh addition to the club’s youth setup.
The player primed to link up with Barca with a view to next season? Álvaro Gomez.
Gomez is a 14-year-old defender, who is currently plying his trade on the books of Segunda División outfit Real Valladolid.
A versatile performer, Gomez is naturally a central defender, but has enjoyed great success after being shifted to a right-back role across the season to date.
Playing a year above his age group, the performances of the 2009-born starlet have long begun to pique the attentions of some of Spanish football’s biggest clubs.
The aforementioned Barcelona, for one, have been on Gomez’s trail for some time now, with their interest in his services having first been reported several months ago.
In turn, it will no doubt mark a source of excitement for the Blaugrana faithful to hear that the club, this week, appear to have gotten their man.
As per a report from Diario Sport:
‘Álvaro Gómez will play in the Barça youth team starting next season.’
The stopper is expected to start out his journey in Catalunya’s capital with Barcelona’s Cadet A side, with a view to moving up the ranks over the seasons ahead.
