Official | Barcelona sack Ronald Koeman

Barcelona have sacked manager Ronald Koeman, the club confirmed on Wednesday night.

The news comes on the same night that Barça lost 1-0 against Rayo Vallecano.

After a poor start to the season, the Camp Nou outfit currently find themselves sitting in 9th place in LaLiga.

Koeman has been under pressure over the past few months and after back-to-back league defeats to Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano, the Dutch coach has been let go by the club he represented as a player and manager.

Xavi Hernández is among the favourites to take over at Camp Nou.

Barcelona’s official statement read: “FC Barcelona has relieved Ronald Koeman of his duties as first team coach. The president of the club, Joan Laporta, informed him of the decision after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano. Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the squad on Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva.

“FC Barcelona wishes to thank him for his service to the Club and wishes him all the best in his professional career.”
