Barcelona rule out Mason Greenwood transfer

An update on the future of Manchester United player Mason Greenwood, who is currently on loan at La Liga side Getafe, has been provided today amid reports linking him with a switch to Barcelona.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Barca are currently not working on a deal to sign Greenwood, despite recent links and this is mainly due to the club’s need to strengthen other areas. The club’s delicate financial situation means they must spread their funds across numerous positions rather than spending heavily on a young talent like Greenwood.

United are likely to demand a substantial fee for the forward and this could restrict the club from making a worthwhile offer, as they would have to sell numerous players to complete the purchase. The Premier League club are open to selling the 22-year-old this summer, but as it stands the Spanish giants have ruled themselves out of the race for Greenwood’s signature and are prioritising different targets.

Reports suggesting a deal between the two parties was close to completion intensified last night, when Red Devils directors John Murtough and Matt Hargreaves were spotted in Spain. It was rumoured that the United directors would meet with sporting director Deco to discuss several names with one of these being Greenwood.
