Koke close to agreeing new contract at Atlético Madrid

An update on the future of Atlético Madrid player Koke has been provided today, amid reports of a breakdown in contract talks between the two parties.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, talks between Koke’s camp and the club are progressing well and are almost at the final stages. The club are optimistic that they can find a solution, following César Azpilicueta and Stefan Savić recent extensions.

The 32-year-old wants to extend his stay at the club and although an agreement hasn’t been reached yet, negotiations are advancing in the right direction. Positive contacts between the two parties have taken place in the last few hours and since last Thursday, optimism over an agreement has increased.

The midfielder has until 30 June to reach a deal with the Spanish giants and this will likely happen before the end of the season. However, there are several aspects of the new proposal that need to be finalised before the extension can be made official and be announced.

This season, the club captain has made 36 appearances and during this period he has provided four assists.
