Spanish football’s three biggest clubs have all positioned themselves in the race for the signature of a breakthrough young talent at Portuguese giants Porto.
The player in question? Cardoso Varela.
Varela, for his part, is a 15-year-old winger, whose explosive performances have long seen him labelled one of Portuguese football’s next great prospects.
Despite his tender years, the attacker is already a regular at U19 level with Porto, and has racked up 14 appearances for his country’s U17s.
And yet, Varela’s future at the The Estádio do Dragão is, as things stand, altogether uncertain.
The starlet’s Porto contract is due to come to an end in the summer, with top clubs from across the continent understood to be lining up for his signature.
As per a report from FootMercato, in Spain, all of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid have earmarked Varela is a leading target.
Not only that, but all three clubs ‘have made a concrete offer’ to bring the Portuguese in, to continue his development in La Liga.
The race for Varela remains wide open, though, with it added that Manchester City, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are all keen on his services, too.
One thing is for sure: the youngest player to ever take to the pitch for Porto in the UEFA Youth League will not be short of options, should he choose to seek out a new adventure this summer.
