Barcelona offer Lionel Messi new deal

Lionel Messi has a contract renewal proposal on the table from Barcelona, according to TV3 via Marca. The deal is reportedly a 10-year contract offer for the Argentine.

Messi is currently in Argentina training with the Albiceleste to play two qualifiers for the World Cup. After that, he has the Copa America ahead of him. Messi will not give a final answer on his future until he knows more details regarding the 2021/22 season at the club.

The club captain has always said that he wants an attractive sporting project and that Barcelona can really compete for all the titles in the short term. If that is the case, the economic aspect would not affect his future. TV3 reports that the number 10 has been sympathetic to the lack of big stars arriving this summer, owing to the economic crisis at Camp Nou. The club is optimistic about his future.

The initial idea was to wait for the results of the audit that Joan Laporta and his board have commissioned to find out the economic reality of the club before presenting Messi with a proposal but, as the results will not be available for two or three weeks, Barça did not want to wait any longer.

On Friday, Laporta will appear at a press conference and is expected to give details about Messi’s future.
