Barcelona need €20m to be able to register Jules Koundé

Barcelona need €20 million to be able to register defender Jules Koundé, who was once again left out of the squad for the club’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday, report AS.

Two weeks after joining Barça from Sevilla for €50 million, Koundé has not been to make his debut. Barça have until 1 September to register the France international.

Five players could still leave Barça this summer. Samuel Umtiti is close to signing for Lecce if he passes his medical. Martin Braithwaite has been approached by Mallorca, however, Barça are sceptical about the departure of the Dane, who has shown a significant lack of interest in moving all summer.

The departure of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also on hold. Last Friday there was a meeting between Chelsea, Barça and the player’s agents. For the Catalan giants, the operation is an important one, because the former player arrived for free and his sale would be a good deal. But, for the moment, it is still up in the air.

Memphis Depay travelled to the game against Real Sociedad pending his possible departure to Juventus, for which Barça would not make any money but would reduce their wage bill. The Dutchman arrived for free last summer.

Sergiño Dest’s departure is also up in the air. Those five departures are key to registering Koundé and, perhaps, to making last-ditch bids for Juan Foyth and Marcos Alonso.
