Barcelona make first contact for Mason Greenwood

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have kicked into gear initial efforts towards a summer deal for Manchester United star Mason Greenwood.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Amid an ongoing search for cut-price attacking reinforcements with a view to next season, Greenwood, it is understood, has been identified as a ‘real’ target by Deco and his team of Barcelona directors.

The 22-year-old is of course currently on loan in Spain, where he has enjoyed an impressive campaign to date on the books of Getafe.

All told, in 26 appearances across all competitions, Greenwood has racked up eight goals, and five assists.

And such endeavours have proven enough to pique the attentions of the brass at the Camp Nou, who it is claimed this week made first contacts with the players’s entourage, over the possibility of a summer joining of forces.

Barca are said to be highly appreciative of Greenwood’s talents, with a plan therefore having been drawn up to seek out a big-money sale for one of the current crop of attackers at the disposal of Xavi, before bringing in the Englishman on the cheap.

This comes ahead of the expiration of Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United in the summer of 2025.
