Barcelona make final Luis Suárez transfer call

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona have made the call not to move ahead with a potential deal for Sporting CP star Luis Suárez. This comes amid the understanding that the Colombian has been deemed too expensive.

Frontman Suárez has of course emerged as a prominent figure in the media headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last couple of days.

Amid Barcelona’s ongoing pursuit of centre-forward reinforcements, the 28-year-old has been tipped as a new candidate to add to Hansi Flick’s options through the middle.

Frustrated in their efforts to bring in Julián Alvarez from La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid, Suárez’s 38 goals last season have piqued the interest of Deco and his team of Camp Nou directors.

As alluded to above, though, almost as quickly as his name is understood to have been added to Barca’s shortlist, it has now been crossed out.

As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:

‘Barcelona will not activate €80m release clause for Luis Suárez as price considered too high. Sporting won’t make any discounts and expect Colombian striker to stay.’
