The latest comments on the part of Barcelona loanee João Félix regarding his future have piqued widespread attentions across Spain on Thursday.
This comes after the Portuguese international made crystal clear that he has no intention of returning to Atlético Madrid.
Frontman Félix has of course spent the season to date lining out for Xavi’s Barcelona.
And though inconsistency, at times, has continued to plague his game, the 24-year-old has for the most part proven himself a positive influence, adding some guile and ingenuity to the Blaugrana’s ranks in the final third.
Never was this more evident than this past weekend, when a sumptuous pass on Félix’s part broke down a stubborn Las Palmas backline, laying on Raphinha for the only goal of a 1-0 win.
The widespread understanding, in turn, is that those in a position of power at Barca are keen on extending Félix’s stay beyond its current close in the summer.
And, if his latest comments are anything to go by, then the attacker himself appears equally eager to continue the Blaugrana chapter of his career into next season.
Drawn on the prospect of a return to Atlético Madrid during an interview with Jijantes (as cited by Relevo) on Thursday, Félix, jokingly, said all that needed to be said:
“Don’t be bastards.”
Pressed further on the prospect of staying put in Catalunya, and specifically lining out at the Camp Nou as a Barcelona player, the Portuguese continued:
“I would love to play at the Camp Nou. In Montjuïc the public is a little far away due to the athletics track. We will see what happens next year. I am very comfortable here: the people are good, the city is perfect, my family is happy… I would like to stay, but it’s not up to me.”
