La Liga champions Barcelona are ready to pivot their full focus towards the signing of one of Julián Alvarez’s fellow countrymen over the days ahead. This comes as Deco and co. are forced to face up to the reality of missing out on the 26-year-old this summer.
Frontman Alvarez has of course dominated the media headlines across all of Spain for several months now. After he was identified as the aforementioned Barcelona’s chief target to replace the outbound Robert Lewandowski, the Camp Nou hierarchy quickly set about finding a deal with their counterparts at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.
These approaches, however, have time and time again been firmly knocked back by the Rojiblancos.
Short of locking Alvarez up, those in a position of power at the Metropolitano have made clear that their star goalscorer is simply not available for transfer this summer.
And this message, it would appear, is finally beginning to hit home in Barcelona… As revealed by Blaugrana insider Gerard Romero, speaking during a live stream for Jijantes on Wednesday, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez is the new priority addition to Hansi Flick’s squad:
‘Barça have set Lautaro as their main target for the 9. After Deco’s meeting with his agent in Madrid a few days ago, following the no from Atlético, he is now placed at the top.’
