La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have this week bid farewell to a member of the club’s defensive ranks. This comes after Matteo Ruggeri completed a move to the Premier League, with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
Stopper Ruggeri has of course seen his name subjected to widespread speculation across the summer transfer window to date. Just a year on from his arrival in Spain’s capital, it had long been rumoured that Atlético would be prepared to open the doors to a sale in the face of an offer deemed as sufficient.
Diego Simeone’s left-back ranks have already been added to in high-profile fashion with a view to next season, courtesy of the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo.
After the aforementioned Aston Villa stepped forward with a recent bid for Ruggeri, the Metropolitano brass therefore showcased little hesitance in giving the deal the green light.
And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, official confirmation of the transfer’s completion has arrived. As per a statement across Atléti’s website and social media platforms:
‘Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa have reached an agreement for the transfer of Matteo Ruggeri to the English team. From Atlético de Madrid we wish you the best of luck in your future professional and personal projects.’
