The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are hopeful of a fresh approach on the part of Manchester United for a key member of the club’s midfield setup before the summer is out.
That’s according to Barca insider Gerard Romero, who points towards Frenkie de Jong as the player in question.
The name of Dutch international De Jong has of course proven itself a prominent one in Catalunya’s capital across much of the summer to date.
As much comes as the 27-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Barcelona.
Amid their ongoing search for funds on the market, De Jong has been tipped as one potential sacrifice, despite still being held in high regard by many behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.
With Deco and co. in the knowledge that one high-profile sale would be the ideal scenario before the summer is out, though, the clock is ticking…
So much so that the Blaugrana have reached the point of crossing their fingers for a fresh approach from the Premier League for De Jong over the next couple of weeks.
Manchester United are of course long-term admirers of the former Ajax man’s talents, with De Jong having come within a whisker of making the move to Old Trafford back in the summer of 2022.
And, as per the aforementioned Gerard Romero, speaking on his official Twitch platform:
“Barcelona are hoping that Manchester United will come with an offer for Frenkie de Jong. But the problem is he is injured.”
