An up-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is on the verge of a departure from the club.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Mikayil Faye as the player in question.
The name of stopper Faye has of course long positioned itself centre stage in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital.
This comes amid speculation surrounding the Senegalese’s place in the plans of new Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick and his coaching staff.
Whilst some assured that Faye was a central part of Flick’s plans, others were adamant that his future was altogether more unclear, amid the logjam at centre-back at the Camp Nou.
And, if the latest word to have surfaced in the media on Friday is anything to go by, it would appear that it was the latter camp who were closer to the truth.
As per a report from MD:
‘Mikayil Faye (20 years old) is about to seal his exit from FC Barcelona . The Senegalese centre-back did not participate in the training session this Friday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper to prepare for the league debut against Valencia at Mestalla and his farewell to the Blaugrana club is a matter of time.’
Significantly, it is also noted that, whilst Faye’s sale will raise much-needed funds to go towards player registrations for Barcelona, the call is chiefly down to the fact that the 20-year-old ‘has not fully convinced Hansi Flick during pre-season’.
As things stand, Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais are considered Faye’s most likely landing spot.
