Barcelona expected to bid farewell to two midfielders this summer

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are expected to sanction the summer departures of two members of the club’s midfield ranks.

That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, who has on Monday provided the latest on developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

First, and most notably, comes the predicted sale of Oriol Romeu.

Experienced midfielder Romeu of course only made the move to Barca last summer, from La Liga rivals Girona.

And though the 32-year-old enjoyed a productive start to life in Blaugrana colours, his form has since dipped, culminating in Romeu slipping down the engine room pecking order of boss Xavi.

In turn, as per the aforementioned Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, the one-time Southampton man is already evaluating his options with a view to the summer.

The Barcelona brass are in the market for a new pivot ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, meaning Romeu will soon become surplus to requirements at the club.

A parting of ways, after just one season, therefore looks a near inevitability.

And likely to follow Romeu out the exit door at the Camp Nou is youngster Pablo Torre.

Attacking midfielder Torre, for his part, has spent the season to date on loan, at Romeu’s former club Girona.

Struggling for game-time amid a stellar season on the part of Míchel’s troops, however, the 20-year-old has failed to convince the powers that be back at Barcelona of his readiness to contribute at senior level.

Moretto, speaking on this occasion to Football-Espana, has in turn confirmed that a fresh exit from Catalunya is on the cards for Torre this summer.

It is as of yet unclear whether as much will come in the form of a permanent sale, or another loan, but the Spaniard is not expected to be short on suitors, amid interest in his services on the part of a number of La Liga clubs.
