La Liga champions Barcelona are ready to throw their hat in the ring for the signature of Manchester City star Rodri. This of course comes amid the ongoing efforts of Real Madrid to bring the 30-year-old to Spain’s capital.
The brass at Barcelona, for the majority of the summer, did not consider securing reinforcements in the middle of the park as a priority, or even a want.
Recent developments on the personnel front, however, have forced Deco and co. to reconsider their stance. After Frenkie de Jong was ruled out long-term through a knee injury, the Blaugrana began scouring the market for potential opportunities.
And this search, it is understood, recently led the Camp Nou hierarchy to the doorstep of the aforementioned Rodri.
Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is of course expected to bring a close to his Manchester City stint this summer, ahead of the expiration of his contract terms at The Etihad in 12 months’ time.
Real Madrid are considered the clear frontrunners to land the midfield standout as things stand.
As per a report from Cadena SER, though, now closely monitoring the situation with a view to an offer of their own are Hansi Flick’s Barcelona:
‘Barça will attempt to sign Rodri if the player clearly expresses his desire to join the club, and Flick’s team can afford a transfer fee of around €50 million.’
