Barcelona come to final decision on future of captain Sergi Roberto

A fresh, and altogether significant update on the future of Barcelona star Sergi Roberto has come to the fore on Monday evening.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and points towards the versatile midfielder being all set to stay put for next season.

The subject of Roberto’s future has of course long represented a major talking point in Catalunya’s capital.

As much comes with the 32-year-old’s current terms set to come to an end in the summer.

Throughout the majority of the season, outlets across Spain were in agreement that the inevitable outcome would be Roberto moving on as a free agent, amid interest from Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer.

Recent months, however, saw it suggested that the Spaniard’s continuation was being taken into consideration once more, owing to an upturn in Roberto’s performances.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the press on Monday is anything to go by, the decision appears to have been made – should he choose to, Roberto will remain a Barcelona player for the 2024/25 campaign.

As per the aforementioned MD, Deco and co. have informed the Blaugrana club captain ‘of the intention to extend his contract’.

Significantly, it is also assured that this will be the case regardless of who is on the bench at the Camp Nou next season.

Barcelona have already made contact with Josep Maria Orobitg, Roberto’s agent, regarding a meeting to be held ‘immediately’, during which the midfielder will be offered a one-year extension, featuring the same financial terms as his current contract.
