Barcelona boost as 2nd suitor emerges for out-of-favour defender

La Liga giants Barcelona have on Monday been afforded a boost, ahead of the summer.

This comes amid confirmation that a new suitor have positioned themselves in the race for a member of the club’s loan army.

The player in question? Sergiño Dest.

Defender Dest, for his part, has spent the season to date on another temporary stint away from Barcelona.

After struggling to adapt to life in Italy with AC Milan in 2022/23, the United States international has since enjoyed an altogether more productive time of things in the Netherlands, with PSV Eindhoven.

Establishing himself as a pivotal member of Peter Bosz’s backline, Dest has racked up 37 appearances across all competitions, notching two goals and seven assists along the way.

The widespread understanding is that the PSV brass, in turn, have already come to the decision to attempt to make Dest’s arrival a permanent one.

If the latest word stemming from the Netherlands on Monday is anything to go by, though, then the soon-to-be-crowned Eredivisie champions could yet face competition for the full-back’s signature.

As revealed by Dutch football expert Hans Kraay Jr, speaking to ESPN, Ajax, from whom Dest joined Barcelona, are also keen on a reunion with the 23-year-old:

“PSV can of course take him from FC Barcelona for ten million. But Ajax will also join the battle for the signature of the ten million man.”
