Barcelona & Atlético Madrid contact Chelsea over summer transfer

The boards at La Liga giants Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have both touched base with their counterparts at Chelsea over recent weeks.

This comes with the two Spanish sides eyeing a deal for Blues defender Marc Cucurella.

Left-back Cucurella, it is claimed, has opened the door to a departure from Stamford Bridge with a view to the 2026/27 campaign.

Frustrated with life in west London after a hugely underwhelming last 12 months, the former Getafe standout has begun sounding out potential suitors.

Considered one of world football’s very best in his position, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of interest in Cucurella’s signature already beginning to spread.

As per a report from The Athletic, two such clubs keen on the 27-year-old come from La Liga, in the form of Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.

In the case of the former:

‘Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has been in touch with the 27-year-old’s camp, as he and head coach Hansi Flick are considered admirers.’

Departures would be required before the Blaugrana could move forward with an official offer, though.

Turning focus towards the Metropolitano:

‘Atlético Madrid have also been in touch regarding signing Cucurella this summer. Diego Simeone’s team view a left-back as one of their top priorities in the transfer window, and Cucurella is very high on their wish list.’

Atléti, it is added, are considered one of the defender’s most likely destinations.
