Barcelona and Ousmane Dembélé close to reaching agreement on contract renewal

Barcelona and Ousmane Dembélé are close to reaching an agreement on a contract renewal, according to Luis Rojo of Marca.

The new contract will be until 2024, as reported by Rojo.

The parties have been in talks for months regarding a new deal for the French winger, who has been linked with clubs, including Chelsea.

Barcelona manager Xavi has admitted publicly that he wants Dembélé to stay at the club.

When enquired about the transfer situation, Xavi first praised the Frenchman’s professionalism and performance.

“Everyone goes where they want and where they think they will be happy, even more so if the contract ends. He has helped us a lot during the last six months, and made a difference while being committed. I can only say positive things about Ousmane. He has been a professional.”

Xavi wished Dembélé the best irrespective of whether he signs a new deal or not: “We’ll see if he stays here. There are negotiations, but I will always wish him the best.”

Dembélé was in terrific form in the second half of the season. From being booed by the Camp Nou earlier in the season, the winger received standing ovations after his displays in recent months. He soared up the assists chart in La Liga, finishing the campaign with 13, the most in the division.
