Barbastro player apologises to Xavi after narrow Barcelona defeat

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández was the recipient of a sincere apology, on the back of his side’s latest outing.

Barca, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.

Turning attentions towards matters in the Copa del Rey, the Catalan heavyweights made the trip to minnows Barbastro, with sights set on a spot in the competition’s quarter-finals.

And, when all was said and done, march on to the final eight is precisely what they managed.

The Blaugrana, however, looked far from convincing en route to as much, emerging narrow 3-2 victors from an at times tetchy affair.

On the back of the full-time whistle in Huesca, tensions remained high, with one notable flashpoint having seen the aforementioned Xavi shoved by Barbastro’s Antonio Crespo.

After the pair made their way into the tunnel, however, the hostilities were soon eased.

As confirmed by journalist Adrià Albets, Crespo personally sought out Barcelona’s famed headmaster, to apologise for his actions, and explain that he had simply been caught up in the moment:

“I’m sorry, it was just in the heat of the moment,” he assured.
