Atlético working on deal for €40m midfielder

The board at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have kickstarted efforts towards reinforcing the club’s midfield ranks with a view to the 2027/28 campaign.

This comes amid the understanding that the Rojiblancos are in active negotiations with the representatives of Stefan Džodić over a potential joining of forces.

Džodić, for those not familiar with his name, is a 21-year-old midfielder, who is currently plying his trade in Spanish football’s 2nd tier on the books of Almería.

The youngster has long been held in high regard across the Spanish football landscape, since penning terms with Almería back in the summer of 2025.

Already a senior international with Serbia, Džodić, in turn, has now made his way onto the radar of one of La Liga’s headline clubs.

As per a report from Marca, in fact:

‘Atlético Madrid are in talks with the player’s representatives to lay the groundwork for a potential transfer. While no agreement has been finalized, the interest is strong, and those at the Metropolitano believe Džodić possesses the necessary qualities to become a long-term investment.’

Džodić’s contract contains a release clause set at €40 million, but the positive relationship between Atléti and Almería means a deal could be struck for less with a view to next season.
