La Liga heavyweights Atlético Madrid have on Wednesday closed a final agreement to secure the signing of Cristian Romero from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has provided the latest on the situation.
Defender Romero has emerged as a leading transfer target at the Metropolitano over the last couple of weeks. After the Argentine made clear his intention to secure a departure from north London before the summer is out, Diego Simeone set his sights firmly on the signature of his fellow countryman.
On the lookout for fresh blood at the heart of defence, Romero – boasting defensive, leadership and technical qualities alike – is considered the ideal profile by all in a position of power at Atlético.
Safe to say, then, that all of a Rojiblancos persuasion will no doubt be excited by the latest word doing the rounds in the European media on Wednesday evening.
As per a report from the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano:
‘Cristian Romero to Atlético Madrid, HERE WE GO! Agreement in place between clubs with Tottenham at €40m package, add-ons included.’
Romero is expected to fly out to Madrid to undergo a medical and sign his contract over the days ahead.
