Those in a position of power at Atlético Madrid have this week fired yet another warning message the way of La Liga rivals Barcelona, regarding the latter’s pursuit of Julián Alvarez.
This comes by way of a statement, confirming that the Rojiblancos have no intention of even sitting down to negotiate with their counterparts at the Spotify Camp Nou.
In an official release across the club’s social media platforms on Thursday, Atléti announced:
‘The members of Atlético de Madrid’s Board of Directors have unanimously expressed their absolute support for the club’s decision to not negotiate the transfer of Julián Alvarez to FC Barcelona.
‘The members of the Board of Directors acknowledge that “Atlético de Madrid is open to standard transfer market negotiations when conducted in a professional, ethical and respectful manner. We fully stand behind the club’s previously communicated position that FC Barcelona failed to meet these requirements and, as a result, there will not be any negotiation and there is zero consideration of an Alvarez transfer to Barcelona.”
‘Atlético de Madrid trust that our player will understand the decision and will remain focused on helping the club achieve its goals, just as he has done during the two seasons he has been defending our colors.’
This stance of course leaves Barcelona and Alvarez alike in something of a difficult position ahead of the fast-approaching summer transfer deadline.
Joan Laporta and co. have long made clear that the Argentine remains their no.1 target to reinforce Hansi Flick’s frontline, with Alvarez himself having also made public his desire to move on amid the Blaugrana’s interest.
Premier League champions Arsenal, meanwhile, are all the while waiting in the wings, ready to pounce…
