Atlético Madrid plan Antoine Griezmann-Álvaro Morata swap deal with Barcelona

Antoine Griezmann is firmly in Diego Simeone’s plans for next season, report Cadena Cope.

Atlético Madrid have the option to extend Griezmann’s loan for another year, before the club must pay his obligatory transfer clause of €40 million to FC Barcelona. However, Cope’s Antonio Ruiz reports that Atlético are hoping to finalise a swap deal with Barça which would see Álvaro Morata join the Blaugrana so that they don’t have to pay the entirety of Griezmann’s transfer clause.

Los Colchoneros are paying 100 per cent of the player’s salary for the current season after Griezmann agreed to a reduction of up to 40 per cent in his salary compared to what he would have received if he had remained at Camp Nou.

Last summer, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid agreed on the loan of Griezmann. The deal included the possibility that the loan could be extended for another season, provided both clubs agreed.

Griezmann has scored eight times and assisted another six in 35 games across all competitions for Atlético this season.
