Atlético Madrid handed double boost as Morata & Giménez injury updates provided

Updates on the wellbeing of two key members of Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid squad have come to the fore on Monday evening.

The players in question? Álvaro Morata, and José María Giménez.

Beginning with the former, frontman Morata of course set alarm bells ringing across the Atlético fanbase late last night.

This came upon the Spanish international limping out of the club’s La Liga defeat at the hands of Sevilla, before being spotted in tears on the sideline.

Early reports, in turn, went as far as to point towards Morata as having potentially suffered an ACL tear.

As much, however, has since proven far from the case.

Taking to his official social media platforms (as cited by Sport) a short time ago, the 31-year-old provided an update on his wellbeing, after undergoing a round of medical tests on Monday morning.

And Morata confirmed that he has not picked up anything ‘serious’, before thanking the Atléti faithful for all of their messages of support.

The former Chelsea man’s injury has since been announced as a ‘bone contusion and a sprain of the internal lateral ligament of his right knee’.

He could therefore be back in action in as little as three weeks, in contention to feature in the 2nd leg of the Rojiblancos’ Champions League Last-16 tie with Inter Milan.

And further good news has since come to the fore for Diego Simeone and his squad.

This comes by way of confirmation that José Giménez is also inching towards an imminent return to matchday duties.

Stopper Giménez, for his part, has been sidelined since late last month, owing to a hamstring injury.

On Monday, though, he was spotted back in first-team training alongside the rest of Atlético’s stars, as confirmed by Mundo Deportivo.

The Uruguayan is therefore expected to be fit and available to boss Simeone for Saturday’s La Liga meeting with Las Palmas.
