Atlético Madrid and England right-back Kieran Trippier has been suspended from football for 10 weeks for breaching FA betting rules, according to The Athletic.
Trippier denied the charges in May and had a personal hearing in October, however, the FA said four of the seven alleged breaches had been proven. The 30-year-old’s suspension includes all football-related activity.
The Athletic reports that wagers were placed by a small group of the player’s friends after conversations on WhatsApp. The FA’s betting rules state that it is an offence to pass on inside information.
The former Tottenham Hotspur defender will now serve a 10-week ban, starting on December 23, 2020. The ban runs up to and including Sunday, February 28, 2021. He has also been fined £70,000.
Trippier has been in fine form this season for Diego Simeone’s side, helping Los Rojiblancos become a genuine title contender to win LaLiga 2020/21.
