La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement on the terms of a contract with Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero. The Rojiblancos will now need to find a similar accord with the brass in north London.
Defender Romero has of course long been expected to bring a close to the Tottenham chapter of his career this summer.
Fresh off another fine campaign at the heart of Argentina’s backline at the World Cup, a whole host of clubs have in turn been credited with an interest in his signature.
Italian champions Inter Milan at one point looked the favourites to strike a deal for the 28-year-old, with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal also in the running.
As alluded to above, though, this week, Romero has himself given the green light to a move to Spain. As per a report from market insider Matteo Moretto:
‘Atlético Madrid have reached a total agreement with Cuti Romero and are waiting to finalize the transfer details with Tottenham.’
Diego Simeone is understood to view fellow countryman Romero as the perfect addition to his defensive ranks with a view to the La Liga campaign ahead.
