Atlético Madrid 3-2 Feyenoord: 3 things from Atlético’s Champions League victory

Atlético Madrid came back from 2-1 down to win 3-2 at the Civitas Metropolitano on Wednesday night to record their first win in this season’s Champions League.

We take a look at three things from the European tie.

1. It was Atlético Madrid’s second home win in the Champions League after conceding two goals. The other was the 3-2 win against Salzburg on 27 October 2020.

2. After the game Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot was asked about the possibility of Mexican striker Santi Giménez one day joining Real Madrid.

“It always depends on the player and what his ceiling is,” Slot said. “We try to accompany him as much as possible, but the player needs the team to get as much as possible out of him. At Feyenoord there is always a lot of talk about the strikers, Giménez is a great person, with a lot of quality. He is very important but he also depends on the team.”

3. Spanish players with the most goals scored in European Cup/Champions League history (1955-2023):

1 | Raúl (71)
2 | Fernando Morientes (39)
3 | Paco Gento (31)
4 | Álvaro Morata (25)
5 | Cesc Fàbregas (24)

Álvaro Morata became the fourth highest Spanish scorer in the history of the competition. It was his first brace Champions League brace with Atlético (he scored twice with Juventus).
