Athletic Club star ruled out of Real Madrid clash

A headline member of the attacking ranks at Athletic Club will play no part in his side’s upcoming showdown with Real Madrid.

The player in question? Nico Williams.

Wide-man Williams, for his part, was expected to not only feature, but play a central role for Athletic on Sunday night.

As much comes with a daunting trip to the Santiago Bernabéu to face La Liga table-toppers Real Madrid lying in store.

In turn, it will no doubt mark a heavy blow for all associated with the Basque outfit to hear that, at the last minute, Williams has been ruled out of their side’s trip to Spain’s capital.

The 21-year-old is in line for a spell on the sidelines, after picking up a hamstring injury whilst in training on Saturday.

As per a statement across Athletic’s website and social media platforms:

‘Nico Williams has strained a hamstring muscle in his right leg and has been left out of the squad for Sunday’s clash against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

‘His progress will be monitored closely over the next few days.’
