Arsenal ‘on the verge’ of landing Real Sociedad star

Major developments in the ongoing transfer saga linking Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal have on Wednesday been cited online.

The info comes courtesy of transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, and confirms that the move is now closer than ever to completion.

Midfielder Merino has of course been hotly tipped for a return to England with Arsenal for several months now.

Identified as a prime target on the part of fellow countryman Mikel Arteta amid his side’s search for reinforcements in the middle of the park, the 28-year-old quickly made clear his eagerness to link up with the Gunners.

Ahead of the expiration of his Real Sociedad contract in less than 12 months’ time, the transfer was in turn initially labelled by many as something of a formality.

It has therefore come as a source of concern for those of an Arsenal persuasion to see discussions between the parties drag on for as long as they have…

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word on the situation to have surfaced on Wednesday is anything to go by, then the Gunners faithful need not fret.

As per a report from Fabrizio Romano:

‘Mikel Merino [is] on the verge of joining Arsenal as expected. Direct club-to-club talks in London are proceeding very well and Merino has clearly asked Real Sociedad to go.’

The deal is in turn now considered as simply a ‘matter of details’ from completion.
