Real Madrid starlet Arda Güler has on Sunday revealed the nickname he has been afforded amongst his teammates.
The name of youngster Güler, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital over the course of the last couple of days.
This comes after the 19-year-old provided all associated with Real with a reminder of his remarkable abilities.
Afforded his first-ever La Liga start in Los Blancos’ trip to Anoeta to face Real Sociedad, Güler proved himself decisive, notching the game’s only goal on his way to Man of the Match honours.
Upon finding the net in San Sebastián, the midfielder was swiftly mobbed by his teammates, who made clear their delight for Güler amid what has proven a trying debut campaign in Madrid.
Speaking during an interview with KAFA Sports this weekend, the subject of his relationship with the rest of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, in turn, was put to the Turkish international himself.
And, in his response, Güler went on to reveal that he has long been handed a somewhat bizarre nickname – ‘Abi’.
“Most of my teammates call me ‘Abi’ (Older brother in Turkish) but they don’t know what it means!”
He continued:
“I get surprised when Luka Modrić (19 years Güler’s senior) calls me Abi.”
