Arda Güler turns down Barcelona to join Real Madrid

Arda Güler has made a decision on who he will sign for this summer. The 18-year-old has chosen to reject Barcelona and sign for Real Madrid, as reported by The Athletic.

The Turkish youth international has impressed in the number 10 role at Fenerbahçe over the last couple of years. His performances have seen him likened to his idol Mesüt Ozil, who wore the famous white shirt in the past. And now he may get to play under the lights of the Santiago Bernabéu himself.

Güler is currently contracted to Fenerbahçe until 2025 and inserted into his deal is a release clause of €17.5m. However, Mario Cortegana claims that Los Blancos will pay more than that fee to ensure he becomes a Madrid player this summer. Fenerbahçe have also included a clause in his contract entitling them to 20% of any future sale.

Final talks will take place this week and if everything runs smoothly, the attacking midfielder will join the club before meeting up with Carlo Ancelotti and his squad to undergo preseason training.

La Liga outfit Sevilla were also keen on signing the young talent after he impressed in the Europa League matches between the sides earlier this year.
