Antoine Griezmann: “It was a difficult first year at Barcelona.”

Atlético Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann will be one of the main talking points going into Sunday’s game between Barcelona and Atlético at Camp Nou.

Griezmann had a tough spell at Barcelona, where he struggled with a number of things. His departure saw Atlético fans go against him, and he found it difficult to play alongside Lionel Messi.

“It was a difficult first year, as a substitute, not playing, another system, another position… I had to get used to all that,” Griezmann told DAZN in words transcribed by Mundo Deportivo.

He went on to play 48 games for the Catalan club, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists. He was a starter in 41 games.

Better second season for Griezmann at Barcelona

The Frenchman said that in his second season, everything was better for him. “I liked my second year, I enjoyed it,” he continued.

The Atlético Madrid player also spoke about Atlético’s fine run of form of late. The club have gone 12 games unbeaten, with many now wondering if Simeone’s side could have fought for the La Liga title had they not had such a poor start to the season.

“We can ask ourselves that question, because we are playing at a high level, winning every game. You start to think about it and it could be the case. But that’s football.

“Now we’re on another run and we have to enjoy what we have. We’ve got a big game ahead of us. We’ll try to go there and win and get the three points,” Griezmann added.
