Another Barcelona star handed Euro 2024 call-up

A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Wednesday been afforded a call-up by his country for the upcoming European Championships.

The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.

Blaugrana standout De Jong is of course in the midst of a spell on the sidelines, after suffering a serious ankle sprain during a meeting with Real Madrid last month.

The former Ajax man’s status for Euro 2024, in turn, was considered as somewhat up in the air.

The hope, though, was always that De Jong would return in time to play a central part for the Netherlands at the upcoming showpiece in Germany.

And, on Wednesday, the 27-year-old’s hopes of precisely as much have taken a significant step in the right direction.

This comes with De Jong having been officially named in Ronald Koeman’s Oranje squad for the Euros.

The midfielder joins the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Xavi Simons, Matthijs de Ligt, Cody Gakpo and Denzel Dumfries in a Dutch squad brimming with talent:
