Andriy Lunin’s stance on signing new contract at Real Madrid

An insight into the stance of Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, when it comes to the possibility of signing a new contract with the club, has today been provided.

The name of Ukrainian international Lunin has of course proven an unexpectedly prominent one at Real Madrid across the season to date.

As much comes with the 25-year-old having established himself as an absolutely integral member of Carlo Ancelotti’s first-choice XI.

Amid the long-term injury recovery of Thibaut Courtois, Lunin was expected to act as backup to Kepa Arrizabalaga, brought in as emergency cover from Chelsea ahead of last summer’s transfer window slamming shut.

Instead, however, Lunin has proven himself a vastly superior option between the posts, with his figures in 21 appearances in all competitions representing some of the finest across the entirety of Europe.

With the former Zorya Luhansk man’s current terms with Real due to expire in a little over a year’s time, it has in turn come as little surprise to hear of the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu pencilling in talks with Lunin’s entourage, over a renewal.

Where, though, does the player himself stand on the prospect of as much?

Upon Courtois returning to full fitness over the coming months, Lunin is expected to be pushed back into a no.2 role in Madrid.

With the Ukrainian unquestionably talented enough to secure first-choice status elsewhere, could he therefore seek out an exit with a view to next season?

As much, as things stand, looks unlikely.

Speaking on Twitch on Saturday, the subject of Lunin’s Real future was put to Blancos insider Mario Cortegana of The Athletic.

And Cortegana went on to confirm that the shot-stopper is simply waiting for a call from the Bernabéu brass.

This comes with Lunin more than happy with life in Spain’s capital, ready to put pen to paper on fresh terms as a result.
