Alexia Putellas set for Barcelona return almost one year later

Barcelona will face Chelsea in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals on Thursday. However, for a few weeks now, all eyes have been on Alexia Putellas. The two-time Ballon d’Or winner ruptured her ACL on 5 July 2022 and, since then, Blaugrana fans have been dreaming of her return.

As Relevo report, although Putellas will not be in the starting eleven at Camp Nou, she will be on the bench and could play a few minutes against the English side. The club also hopes that the news will help to boost ticket sales for tomorrow, which are going well as 65,000 have been sold at the time of writing.

The first leg against Chelsea ended in a narrow 1-0 win for Barça, and Putellas travelled with the team. The Barcelona captain continued her recovery work and completed the training session with her team-mates at Stamford Bridge.

Putellas’ last game

The last time Alexia played a match was with the Spanish national team on 1 July 2022, when Spain faced Italy in their last match ahead of the European Championship. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and she scored the equaliser and played the full 90 minutes.
