‘A rat’ – Mallorca boss Aguirre draws Lamine-Messi comparison after Barcelona loss

The latest post-match comments put forth by Mallorca head coach Javier Aguirre have piqued widespread attentions on Friday night.

This comes after the Spaniard drew comparisons between Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal, and club legend Lionel Messi.

Wide-man Lamine, for his part, proved the decisive figure in Barca’s meeting with Mallorca earlier this evening.

Cutting in from his berth on the right flank, the Spanish international – still just 16 – bent home the only goal of a hard-fought affair courtesy of a sumptuous left-footed finish.

The strike saw the name of Messi immediately, and almost inevitably come to the fore, with all of Lamine’s cutback, technique, and finish having, in truth, been ‘Messi-esque’.

Post-match, it therefore came as little surprise when Mallorca boss Javier Aguirre provided his take on such comparisons.

The tactician, though, did so in somewhat bizarre fashion.

Recalling the first occasion on which he saw Messi in action, he highlighted the Argentine’s speed of movement as having resembled ‘a rat’, a trait which Aguirre now sees in Lamine, too:

“I saw Messi 21 years ago, when he was a youth. They told me to go see him and I had enough in 5 minutes. He was as fast as a rat. And Lamine is similar. He also paints the rat. A scoundrel! If he continues like this he is going to give many joys to Barcelona.”
