2 in, 2 out: Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid midfield plan for Atlético clash

An insight into the plans of Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti to shake up his midfield ranks for the club’s upcoming showdown with Atlético has been provided this evening.

The latest edition of the Madrid Derby, of course, is set to play out in 24 hours’ time.

This comes as the two capital heavyweights prepare to lock horns for the 2nd time in the space of a week, on this occasion at the Wanda Metropolitano, with a spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey on the line.

Visitors Real, for their part, will head into proceedings brimming with confidence, having put their cross-city neighbours to the sword by five goals to three in the Spanish Super Cup just last week.

It is Atlético, though, who will boast the advantage when it comes to rest, and potentially sharpness, too.

With Diego Simeone’s troops long renowned for their physicality, it should in turn come as little surprise to hear of the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti preparing to alter his starting XI.

Last time out, in the finale of the Supercopa, the Italian opted for a midfield quartet consisting of Aurélien Tchouaméni, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, and Jude Bellingham.

As per a report from Marca’s José Félix Díaz, though, this time round, Tchouaméni and Kroos will drop to the bench.

And in their respective places will come Eduardo Camavinga, and Luka Modrić.
