Barcelona star Gavi has this afternoon taken to social media, to launch a stern defence of teammate Pau Cubarsí.
This comes after stopper Cubarsí was the subject of heavy ridicule on the back of Barcelona’s alarming 3-3 stalemate with Granada on Sunday night.
Post-match, the 17-year-old was accused of play-acting by journalist Paco González, who tore into Cubarsí for his behaviour following a coming together in the Granada penalty area.
Speaking on Cadena Cope, as cited by RAC1, González ranted:
“Pathetic Cubarsi. He goes down complaining, he doesn’t get touched. He completed his theater career at the age of 17. Let his father take him and tell him ‘look son, with the career you have ahead of you, don’t earn a reputation as a theater player’.”
And, unsurprisingly, such comments have since not gone down at all well back in Catalunya’s capital.
In fact, so incensed was one member of Xavi’s squad by the criticism of his teammate, that he has since directed a firm rebuttal.
Taking to the comments section of a post highlighting González’s words, Gavi – sidelined at present owing to injury – assured that the journalist is the one who should be considered ‘pathetic’, urging him to ‘smarten up’:
“Pathetic is what you are, smarten up Paco,” Gavi wrote.
