Xavi provides Andreas Christensen injury update after Barcelona’s win over Atlético

Barcelona head coach Xavi has tonight provided an update on the wellbeing of Andreas Christensen.

As much, of course, comes after the Dane was a late scratch from Barcelona’s starting lineup to take on Atlético Madrid.

Upon the Blaugrana’s XI being announced prior to kick-off on Sunday evening, Christensen was front and centre, primed to take his place at the base of the club’s midfield.

Just minutes before proceedings got underway at the Wanda Metropolitano, however, word was forthcoming that the former Chelsea man would in fact play no part, owing to ‘discomfort’ felt during the warm-up:

Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s dominant 3-0 triumph in Madrid, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Christensen’s wellbeing was put to boss Xavi.

And the Spanish tactician went on to reveal that the 27-year-old was suffering with an Achilles issue, with he and his coaching staff, as a result, having not wanted to ‘take any chances’:

“Christensen had pain in his Achilles during warmups and we didn’t want to take any chances.”
