Xavi, De Jong, Pedri & more – Barcelona chief Deco speaks out

Barcelona sporting director Deco has this evening provided an insight into the futures of a whole host of high-profile figures at the club.

First, and most notably, comes the latest on the situation of head coach Xavi Hernández.

Spanish tactician Xavi is of course primed to bring a close to his stint in the dugout in Catalunya’s capital in the summer.

Drawn on the possibility of his former teammate reversing his decision to stay put for another season, though, Deco, during an interview with Tot costa, hinted that as much is not outside the realms of reality:

“If something changes, I won’t say that we can’t raise it (Xavi remaining). We have nothing against him. It’s not a decision that the club or the sports management has taken. At the moment, there is no such possibility. If it happens, we will discuss it.”

Next on the agenda were the futures of no fewer than four key members of the first-team setup at Barcelona.

Specifically, Deco was asked whether any of Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araújo, or Frenkie de Jong could be on the move in the summer.

As much of course comes amid widespread speculation that Barca may be forced into at least one big-money sale, to raise funds for incomings of their own.

The Blaugrana’s sporting director, however, was quick to brush off any such suggestions, adamant that the Catalans have no intention of authorising the departures of important players:

“Frenkie, Pedri, Gavi, Araujo… They are the present and the future. They should be here for many years. The idea is NOT to sell to anyone this summer.”
