Xavi and Barcelona dealt blow ahead of January transfer window

An insight into the plans of the powers that be at Barcelona for the January transfer window has been provided.

The news will come as a heavy blow to those hopeful of seeing any significant reinforcements arrive in Catalunya with a view to the second half of the campaign.

This comes amid claims in the media that Barcelona will have little to no money for new players this winter.

As per a report from Sport, the ongoing financial concerns at Camp Nou will make mid-season additions all but impossible, meaning boss Xavi Hernández will be forced to make do with the squad at his disposal for the remainder of the term.

The Spaniard has already been informed of as much, with his request for a new deep-lying midfielder set to go unanswered for the time being.

The sole arrival through the door could come in the form of Vitor Roque, with the Blaugrana brass still working to find an agreement with their counterparts at Athletico Paranaense, to fast-track the young frontman’s transfer from the summer to winter.
