Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso will not be sacked owing to the club’s defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
As much has been confirmed by multiple sources across Spain late on Wednesday.
Marca, for one, have assured that:
‘Despite the setback, Xabi bought himself some time.’ This, it is claimed, comes owing chiefly to the fact that Real Madrid put up a legitimate fight against Man City.
Upon the full-time whistle bringing a close to proceedings at the Bernabéu this evening, Los Blancos found themselves condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result.
Fresh off a 2-0 downing at the hands of Celta Vigo at the weekend, and in the midst of a run of just two wins from eight, it had in turn been widely speculated that Xabi Alonso could be sent on his way with immediate effect.
Owing to the desire shown by his players against Man City, and the injury crisis in his squad at present, however, the former midfielder will be afforded at least a little more time to turn the situation around.
