Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso will see his job put on the line in the club’s meeting with Deportivo Alavés this weekend.
This comes amid the understanding that, should the former midfielder not manage a return to winning ways on Sunday, he will be sacked with immediate effect.
Speculation surrounding the future of tactician Alonso in Spain’s capital has of course returned to the forefront of the headlines over the last 24 hours.
As much comes after Real Madrid were put to the sword by Manchester City in the Champions League.
This marked Los Blancos’ 2nd defeat on the spin, and means that they have won just two of the club’s last eight fixtures across all competitions.
Such woes have thrown Alonso’s position on the touchline very much up in the air.
And though Real’s players collectively rallied around their headmaster on Wednesday night, those behind the scenes at the Bernabéu appear to be far less forgiving…
As per a report from El Chiringuito TV on Thursday:
‘If Madrid doesn’t win against Alavés, Xabi will be sacked.’
