Xabi Alonso wants Real Madrid to battle Liverpool for big-name signing this summer

Incoming Real Madrid head coach has made it known to the club that he would like to bring Florian Wirtz with him to Spain this coming summer.

That’s according to Radio MARCA, who, during a live broadcast on Tuesday, provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The name of youngster Wirtz has of course proven an increasingly prominent one across the European headlines over recent days.

This comes amid the understanding that interest in the signature of the German international is beginning to mount, ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.

Premier League champions Liverpool, for one, are understood to be extremely keen on landing Wirtz for next season.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from Spain is anything to go by, the Reds may need to beat out competition from none other than Real Madrid.

As per Radio MARCA, Xabi Alonso, set to take up the reins at Real over the coming weeks, is desperate to bring Wirtz to La Liga.

Alonso was responsible for overseeing the midfielder’s development over the last couple of seasons at Bayer Leverkusen, and considers him the ideal fit for his squad in the Spanish capital.

It now remains to be seen if Florentino Pérez and co. are willing to cough up the no doubt considerable sum set to be demanded for the 22-year-old’s signature.
